Michele Bullock is the Assistant Governor (Financial System) at the Reserve Bank of Australia.

Michele Bullock was appointed to her current position in October 2016. In this role she is responsible for the Bank’s work on financial stability, including production of the twice-yearly Financial Stability Review, as well as the Bank’s oversight of the payments system. She is a member of the Bank’s senior policy committees, Deputy Chair of the Payments System Board, member of Chief Executive Women (CEW) and executive sponsor of the Bank’s employee resource group for accessibility.

Prior to her current position, Michele held a variety of senior management positions in the Bank. Most recently she held the position of Assistant Governor (Business Services). She was also Assistant Governor (Currency), Advisor for the Currency Group and, before that, she was Head of Payments Policy Department.

Minister for Superannuation, Financial Services and the Digital Economy

Minister for Women’s Economic Security

Senator the Hon Jane Hume was first appointed to the Australian Federal Ministry in 2019, with responsibility for Superannuation, Financial Services and Financial Technology. Her responsibilities were expanded in 2020 to encompass the broader digital economy, and again in 2021 when she became the first Minister for Women’s Economic Security.

Minister Hume is passionate about her portfolios- from improving Australia’s superannuation system, ensuring it is transparent, efficient and fit-for-purpose; to facilitating Australia’s ambition to be a world leading digital economy and society by 2030; to ensuring the best possible economic outcomes for women, there is much work to do.

Upon being elected as a Liberal Senator for Victoria in 2016, Senator Hume was appointed Chair of the Senate Standing Committee on Economics. She previously held various senior positions in the financial services industry, working for the National Australia Bank, Rothschild Australia, Deutsche Bank and, immediately prior to her election, as a Senior Policy Adviser at Australian Super.

A proud Melburnian and St Kilda supporter, Minister Hume enjoys swimming, reading, and most of all, spending time with her three children, Harry, Charlie, and Imogen.

Philip Chronican is Chair of National Australia Bank Limited (NAB) and has more than 38 years of experience in banking and finance in Australia and New Zealand. Mr Chronican is also Chair of the Westmead Institute for Medical Research and sits on the National Foundation for Australia‐China Relations Advisory Board.

Mr Chronican is passionate about better banking, leadership and ethics as well as supporting healthy communities through medical research. He served on both the Banking and Finance Oath and Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation until December 2018.

In his previous executive career, Mr Chronican was responsible for the Retail and Commercial Business of the Australia and New Zealand Banking Group Limited (ANZ) in Australia. Prior to joining ANZ, Mr Chronican had a long career at Westpac Banking Corporation, where he established his role in Australian banking as Group Executive Westpac Institutional Bank and Chief Financial Officer.

Steve Ledford works with payments leaders on strategic issues facing financial institutions and manages the RTP® network, The Clearing House immediate payment system. Prior to joining The Clearing House, Mr. Ledford was a partner with Novantas, a financial services consulting firm. Before that, he was a leader in McKinsey’s global payments practice and was President of Global Concepts, a consulting and research firm specializing in payments and cash management. Mr. Ledford is a graduate of Wofford College with a BA in Economics.

Adrian commenced as the inaugural CEO of NPP Australia Limited in September 2016.

Launched to the Australian public in February 2018, the New Payments Platform provides Australian businesses and consumers with a fast, flexible, data-rich payments system for making their everyday payments, and provides a platform for future growth and innovation.

Prior to joining NPP Australia Ltd, Adrian was General Manager, Product & Service at Cuscal Ltd. Adrian was responsible for all product management and operational functions, marketing, sales, and client service.

Cuscal was a founding participant of the Real Time Payments Committee and Adrian was one of several senior staff deeply involved in the design, development and governance of Australia’s NPP.

Jessica joined the Consumer Data Right Division (CDR) in Treasury in December 2020 as the Division was being established. Jessica is responsible for the CDR policy, engagement and governance teams.

Jessica is passionate about delivering good government policy outcomes. With almost eighteen years of public service experience, she has worked across the Australian Government in various agencies including the Treasury, PM&C, the Attorney General’s Department and the Australian Communications and Media Authority leading complex policy and regulatory reforms in topics such as critical minerals and critical technologies, foreign investment, critical infrastructure and cyber policy, and has performed general counsel roles in two Royal Commissions. She is lawyer by training and started her career in private legal practice.

In this current role, Jessica is bringing her passion and enthusiasm to building a world-leading Consumer Data Right in partnership with other government agencies and the CDR community.

Nicholas Tan is the CTO of Monoova, he is an accomplished Digital Technology Executive with broad experience spanning digital business transformation, leading-edge architecture development, program delivery, solution design/engineering leadership as well as global IT & Cyber delivery underpinned by a strong customer focus ethos. He has held leadership positions in Macquarie’s Banking & Financial Services Group, News Corp, Commonwealth Bank of Australia, and PwC Consulting. He holds a Masters in Commerce from the University of New South Wales and is an Air Force Pilot graduate of the Australian Defence Force Academy.

Simone Joyce is the CEO of Paypa Plane, a payment technology company, she co-founded in September 2017. Paypa Plane is the bank-grade platform where traditional scheduled payments and PayTo meet – designed for banks and payment service providers looking to rapidly evolve their product offering without changing their core systems. Paypa Plane was founded to create a better scheduled payments (aka recurring or ongoing) ecosystem for banks, payment service providers, businesses and payers. Elected to the Fintech Australia Board of Directors 2019 and as Chair in 2020. Simone also leads the Payment Working Group for Fintech Australia, sits on the Eftpos Fintech Advisory Committee, the ASIC Digital Advisory Committee and the Emerging Payment Asia Regulatory Working Group. Simone has had many years of experience in payment and Fintech-focused companies and has been frequently recognised over the years for this work – most recently becoming a Finnies Awards finalist for Outstanding Fintech Leader of the Year and Female Fintech Leader of the Year (2021), winning the Paris Fintech Forum Fintech Award (2020) and the Brisbane Lord Mayor’s Global Entrepreneur Grant (2019).

Lance Blockley is Managing Director of The Initiatives Group, a consulting firm specialising in payments. He has advised issuers, acquirers, third-party processors, technology providers and payment associations in addressing many of the financial sector’s most significant issues. He has over 35 years’ experience in senior management and consulting in the UK, USA, Asia and Australia.

Lance has led the consulting team on a number of industry-wide assignments, including the successful removal of signature (PIN@POS) on card payments in Australia in August 2014, the culmination of two and a half years work across multiple stakeholder groups.

Prior to establishing the firm in 2013, Lance ran Edgar, Dunn & Company in Asia-Pacific for over 10 years, also acting for a term as global Managing Director.

Lance holds B.A. and M.A. degrees in Natural Sciences from Cambridge University, England and an M.B.A. from IMD, Switzerland. He is a Fellow of both the Australian Institute of Company Directors and the Chartered Management Institute (UK).

Nathan Churchward brings a vast range of experience to Cuscal and our clients in the role of Head of Product, Emerging Services, with more than 20 years in leadership roles in the banking and payments industry.

Nathan leads Cuscal’s involvement in the New Payments Platform (NPP) and Consumer Data Right (CDR) both at a product development level, as well as through industry representation and client engagement.

Throughout his career Nathan has focused on creating and launching new payment solutions that deliver competitive advantage and enhanced customer experience, in both B2B and B2B2C product management roles at NAB, Optus and Macquarie Bank.

Bianca Bates was appointed to the role of Deputy CEO in addition to her role as Chief Client Officer in December 2020. As well as leading Cuscal’s Product, Client Services and Operations teams, Bianca is involved in Cuscal’s engagement with industry bodies, regulators and shareholders.

Prior to this Bianca held the role of Chief Client Officer since April 2018. Since joining Cuscal in July 2014, Bianca has held several other senior roles including Acting General Manager, Product and Service, General Counsel and Company Secretary, Acting General Manager Shared Services and Head of Client Services.

Bianca has over 20 years’ experience in financial services with large and complex US and Australian companies, both public and private. Prior to Cuscal she worked in senior legal and compliance company secretariat roles with Genworth, GE Capital and DLA Phillips Fox.

Richard Fleming is a Director based in Bain & Company’s Sydney’s office and is recognized as an expert in transformative change. He leads Bain’s Transformation and Results Acceleration Practice in Asia.

Richard has over 20 years of consulting experience across the globe. He joined Bain in 2001 in Sydney and has also lived in New York, London, and Tokyo. He has worked extensively with companies on multi-year transformative change, advising companies across sectors on all aspects of change delivery.

Prior to Bain, Richard worked with Accenture on technology projects in Asia and UK.

Chris Jewell is relatively new to the world of Payments but not new to finance. He spent the better part of two decades working in investment banking and financial markets in London, Melbourne and Sydney for companies including Goldman Sachs, Credit Suisse and Citi in key sales and leadership roles across Asia.

Chris joined Zepto as COO in 2020, and in 2021 was appointed CEO following the company’s rapid growth during this period. Leaning on his leadership skills at the enterprise level, Chris’ focus is on helping Zepto strike a balance between long-term vision and unlocking greater efficiency with its day-to-day velocity.

As the Managing Director of Wpay, Paul Monnington leads a team focussed on creating innovative retail payments for retailers. Prior to Wpay, Paul had been leading the FinTech divisions at Woolworths for several years including Insurance, Cards and Payments. He has led the development of many payments innovations through this time, including scan and go, rewards in apple and google wallets, and open pay business accounts. Mr. Monnington is an experienced executive that has run end to end businesses and delivered digital solutions to the Financial Services sector, specialising in Banking for over 20 years and was a member on the Payments Systems Board up until March 2020.

Prior to joining Woolworths, Paul served as UBanks Digital Director and also ran the program to establish the Bank originally. Prior to that, he has held various roles with NAB, Oracle, Deloitte Consulting, Capgemini, Barclays UK Retail & Business Bank, Legal & General and PwC. He is a qualified accountant having earned his CIMA in Finance from Chartered Institute of Management Accountants and his BSc, Mathematics, from Exeter University in the UK.

Tim became Co-CEO of Assembly Payments in 2020, prior to this he held positions as General Manager and Head of Customer Success. Over the past two decades, Tim has worked with some of Asia Pacific’s most nimble organisations, driving the development of customer centric technologies that make a difference and improve upon the lives of society.

Tim is proud to be a part of Assembly Payments, who in 2018 was the first non-bank to make use of the NPP. Since then, Assembly has helped marketplaces, fintechs, and digital native businesses move billions of dollars through the NPP, improving the end-to-end customer experience and helping to launch entirely new business models in this rapidly growing space.

MYOB is a leading business platform with a core purpose of helping more businesses in Australia and New Zealand start, survive and succeed.  As Head of Go To Market, Financial Services, Steve is focussed on transforming MYOB from an accounting software provider into a business management platform that integrates financial services into key workflows.

Steve has over 20 years of international experience in financial services with a strong focus on customers’ experience of digital banking, payments innovation and the flow of money.  Prior to joining MYOB this year, Steve was Head of Payments at ME Bank and Head of Everyday Banking & Payments at ANZ Bank and has built and managed partnerships with a wide range of networks, payment service providers, fintechs and banks.

With more than 40 years’ experience in banking and technology, Guy is a solution consultant in Enterprise Payments at FIS and is a founding contributor to the FIS “Flavors of Fast” report. Over the past 20 years, he has been helping clients in the APAC region define their approach to managing payment processing using FIS payment hubs. Guy has a unique, hands-on view of the opportunities and challenges of real-time payment functions in their various evolutions.

Albert leads CBA’s strategy and innovation for payments and open data across the retail, business and institutional client segments.

Albert has accountability for a team that manages domestic and international payments products, open data initiatives and management of the Bank’s relationship with payments regulators and industry bodies.

Albert’s remit includes the commercialisation of emerging technology including the New Payments Platform, APIs, distributed ledger technologies, open banking, and building out the Bank’s international payments capabilities.

Albert has also been Chief Operating Officer, Americas, for CBA based in New York where he was responsible for overall operations, client on-boarding, premises and communications in the Americas.

Albert has over 20 years’ experience in financial services across general management, strategy, business development, corporate and regulatory affairs, and operations.

Prior to joining the Bank, he was at MasterCard Worldwide where he held various senior management positions in the Australasian business, most recently serving as Country Manager for its New Zealand business.

Albert holds a Bachelor of Laws from University of New England and Bachelor of Commerce from Macquarie University. On a personal note, Albert is a father to three wildly different sons who keep him and his wife busy and constantly entertained.

Oscar has supported Trustly since 2009, first as a board member and since January 2013 in full-time executive positions. He was appointed CEO in 2016. He started his career at Goldman Sachs where he spent close to five years in the Investment Banking Division based in London and Moscow. From 2007 to 2012, he was a Portfolio Manager at Alpcot Capital Management where he was part of the team that developed and launched Europe’s first actively managed equity ETF.

Paul Lahiff is a Director of AUB Holdings, Sezzle, and Harmoney and chairs the Boards of NESS Superannuation and 86400. He was previously the inaugural Chair of New Payments Platform Australia Limited and now chairs the ISO20022 Migration Steering Committee. He has previously on the Boards of Cuscal, Australian Retail Credit Association, Sunsuper, Cancer Council NSW, House With No Steps, and Thorn Group.

He has over forty years of experience in banking and finance having served as Managing Director of Mortgage Choice, Permanent Trustee, and Heritage Building Society, as well as in senior executive roles with Westpac in Sydney and London.

Victoria has been working with payment and identity technologies for over 20 years. She has advised a range of organisations, from start-ups to major banks, on the business implications of emerging payment and identity technologies. She is currently the Chief Strategy Officer at Australian Payments Network Limited.

Australian Payments Network (AusPayNet) is the self-regulatory body set up by the payments industry to improve the safety, reliability, equity, convenience and efficiency of the Australian payments system.

Dougie has over 35 years’ banking experience having started with Clydesdale Bank in 1985 and has enjoyed a varied career path encompassing branch banking, sales and service support, relationship management, programme management and payments.

As Head of Payments at Virgin Money, Dougie was responsible for all payments functions across the wider group, incorporating Clydesdale Bank, Yorkshire Bank and Virgin Money, and the strategic integration of the various teams and functions into a single business.

A Fellow of the Chartered Banker Institute and an Associate of the Chartered Management Institute, Dougie has also served as a Pension Scheme Trustee and a Trustee Director of the Bank Workers Charity.

As Chief Payments Officer at Pay.UK, Dougie will be responsible for ensuring that our payments processing and services remain robust and resilient, while driving his passion for people development to build and enhance the skills of his colleagues.

James heads up the Standards Authority at Pay.UK the retail payments authority for the UK whose systems move more than £7 trillion every year through Bacs Direct Credit, Direct Debit, Faster Payments, cheques and Paym.

James is responsible for setting standards policy and strategy and representing the UK and Europe on retail payment standards.  He has a long career contributing to industry thinking on standards for many years and brings a practical outcomes based approach to complex issues.

As retail payments become more globally focussed and with the fintech sector growing it becomes increasingly significant to ensure standards are defined, progressed and rolled out across the industry, and any changes are future looking. James’s leadership dedicates the Standards Authority to contributing to solving these challenges.

James and his team built the first open collaborative API ecosystem in the payments industry to prove this technology in a collaborative industry setting. James was also involved in the development of PSD2 and has co-chaired the European API Evaluation Group with the support of the European Commission and European Banking Authority.

Alongside this, James also chairs the ISO 20022 international Standards Group and leads the work globally to advance utilisation of the standard to ensure it continues to meet the needs of users from communities around the globe. He has also worked with  G20 regulators to lead the development of ISO standards for the benefit of both the private and public sector, notably ISO 17442 Legal Entity Identifier.
